The Aetos tournaments are named after the planet that the story takes place on. The story centers around a country called Obruum, a continental power.

The following are the background stories for the tournaments.

The Sand War

Two great, neighboring nations coexisting in peace and strength for so long that one could easily mistake them as a single entity. For centuries they have shared a wealth of technology, weapons and at times even the most precious resource of all, land. Together they were an overwhelming force, but no two powers can share the top forever.
The Sand War
The Obruum Empire is a very desolate and cold nation located on the fringe of the Northern Ring. As the decades began to pass, the once abundant sharing of crucial materials between Obruum and its ally, the Solstar Faction, had become extremely stringent. The Obruum Empire requires many of the resources obtained from Solstar for its own progress and most importantly for the growth and development of its army. While Solstar does benefit some from trade with their neighbor to the North, they are not as dependent on Obruum for survival as Obruum is on Solstar. While Obruum could develop into a strong force on its own, Obruum would become something of a lesser power without Solstar’s much needed materials and assistance.
The century prior to The War brought the development of a governmental faction, restricting Obruum's access to crucial materials. Every decade brought with it a decrease in the amount of the much-needed materials from Solstar to Obruum. As the supplies dwindled, things began to look bleaker for the struggling Obruum. Almost a decade ago, Obruum was invaded by another nation in the Northern Ring and was unable to repel the attacks. Although Solstar sent some aid, Obruum still lost a quarter of its land. After the war, Solstar lessened its restrictions on the supply of materials to Obruum, but this act of kindness did not last for long. Solstar soon tired of Obruum’s dependency on them. The relationship between the once united nations was becoming more of a hassle for the mighty nation of Solstar then it was worth. The Solstar government began to make motions to once again restrict their aid to weak Obruum. The most recent restriction called for a major cutback in Solstar's army presence in Obruum, leaving Obruum open for more attacks from their Northern enemies. Obruum’s people began to feel betrayed by their once ally, and began to take desperate measures against them, in an attempt to voice their displeasure and yet show how powerful they still could be, even on their own.
For many centuries, Solstar and Obruum fought side by side. As time passed, their alliance began to result in an accumulation of land acquired from the demise of their joint enemies. Due to their military coalition, the supplies of both nations have become strikingly similar, especially when examining the technology used in developing artillery such as helicopters and jets. But Obruum’s more recent weakness has begun to slow down Solstar’s military progress. While Obruum has provided the minds behind a lot of the advancements in both of their armies, Solstar primarily paid and provided the materials used in the production of these items. This as resulted in a large drain on Solstar's resources. Solstar began to put restrictions in place a century ago to protect their own country. If their neighbor continued to consume their materials at their current rate, Solstar would not have been able retain enough resources for themselves.
Recently, the northern power and sworn enemy of the Solstar Faction, Maskir, had offered a truce and alliance with Obruum. Within hours of the acceptance of the Alliance, the Solstar Faction declared war on the Obruum Empire and its new alliance (dubbed the Northern Coalition). In retaliation, Solstar sought out alliances of its own and joined forces with many smaller countries of the desert region. Its new alliance was deemed the Tustin Alliance.
The Obruum Empire, armed with new materials from Maskir, made the first strike and drove deep into Solstar's lands. The Tustin Alliance, surprised by such sudden attacks, was slow to move forces into battle position. The field is equal, but only one force will remain.

Broken Unity

Five years ago, the nation of Obruum was involved in a conflict with a neighboring country, the Solstar Faction. The conflict was known to the people as the Sand War, a clash of titans: Solstar and Obruum. And though it was a battle between these two top powers of the continent, the war also greatly impacted the nations sharing a boarder with Sostar Faction and Obruum. In the end, Obruum came out the victor, however, the years of battle had an immense financial toll on the once great country and it immediately plunged into a depression.
With the acquisition of Solstar’s territories, Obruum’s resources were stretched. For a couple of years, Obruum’s economy was in shambles, making it difficult for citizens to build back their once peaceful countryside. Eventually, with the influx of economic growth from Solstar’s old territory, Obruum began to pull out of its depression. In the West, however, a new nation was ready to question Obruum’s power.
The Altair Empire had been growing fairly quickly over the previous decade. The Empire had watched patiently from the sideline to see which country, Obruum or Solstar, would come out victorious. The Empire knew the war would ultimately weaken both countries, including the winner. Once Obruum had removed Solstar from the picture, Altair began preparing for war.
Their first strike occurred on the anniversary of Obruum’s victory over Solstar. In the late hours, Altair forces attempted to take the city of Teria and turn the former Solstar citizens against Obruum. Unfortunately, the citizens, although not particularly happy about their situation with Obrumm, were even less excited about their prospects as citizens of Altair. Before the morning hours passed, Teria’s militias, later reinforced by Obruum troops, took back the city. By day’s end, Obruum had declared war and a new battle for power had begun.
